Larry

Larry was born and raised in Chippewa Falls, WI. Larry grew up in a musical household listening to Johnny Cash, Kenny Rodgers, Barbara Mandrell, and Conway Twitty to name a few. But his biggest influence in his early years was the King, Elvis Presley!
Larry hit the music scene in 1987 forming a band called "Faces" with his high-school friends. In the early 90’s, Larry fronted and played rhythm guitar in "Larry and the Losers" and shortly after formed "Oilpan". In 2017, Larry started working with "2nd X-it" 2nd X-it became a premier 70's and 80's rock tribute band performing at several prominent venues and festivals. In late 2023, members of "2nd X-it" and "The Contingency Show" joined forces and created "Kanebrake" The Chippewa Valley's premier 80's rock cover band. Larry has been performing in bands for close to 40 years as a lead vocalist performing hundreds of shows all over the region.
Frank
Guitar
Growing up during the pinnacle era of hair bands and thrash metal, it wasn’t until the mids 2000s that he picked up a guitar. After getting his first gig playing at a coworker’s retirement party, he joined a small number of area bands before enjoying the short lived success of OCD. The Contingency Show was created immediately afterwards and within 10 years, he shared 300 gigs and a list of venues reaching from Hurley to Platteville with his bandmates, adding festivals like Rock Fest (2x), Northwoods Rock Rally (3x), and Decadent Cabaret (6x). That led to opening for touring acts such as Badfinger, A Killer’s Confession, Royal Bliss, Chris Kroeze and the Iron Maidens. In 2024, he joined Kanebrake. He admits his future looks pretty damn good!
Dave "Double D"
Guitar
Dave started his music career on the acoustic guitar at a very young age where he was formally trained. Some years later, Dave was hired to be the lead guitar player in a ten-piece funk band where he displayed his incredible talent and diversity. Dave has also played in a successful Led Zeppelin tribute band. 2nd X-it contacted Dave in early 2007 and invited Dave to join as the lead guitarist. Dave spent the next 16 years rocking the region in 2nd X-it. In late 2023, members of 2nd X-it merged with members of The Contingency Show to form Kanebrake. Dave's discipline, incredible diversity, and attention to detail make him one of the best and most talented guitar players around!
Jim
Bass
Jim comes from the northern lands where guitars grow on trees and Hodags run wild. Jim got his 1st bass guitar at the ripe age of 12. Through the years, Jim has been in many working bands including Mr. Meaner, American Alien, Badaz and Wrapped In Glass to hone his skills as a Metal style Bass Player. Influenced by some of the greats including Gene Simmons, Cliff Burton, Jason Newsted, Duff McKagen, Ryan Martinie, Steve Harris, and Rudy Sarzo, Jim has developed into one of the areas best and most talented Metal bass players. As a child riding his bike singing Dokken with head phones on and not caring who hears him, Jim knew music is the way he wanted to go!
Jody
Drums
Jody’s stage experience spans nearly 50 years starting at the age of 15 playing drums in his dad’s country band in Arkansaw, WI. Over the years Jody has been involved in over 25 bands including a mid-west touring rock band from Milwaukee in 1982 and a California based band doing a USO tour of military sites in Alaska. Moving back to the area in 1987 he immediately formed the band Maxin and started his long journey of music in the area. In the 90’s he was behind the kit for the popular Eau Claire band Demand playing bars and festivals all over west central Wisconsin. Demand called it quits in 2003. Over the next decade or so Jody played in various bands throughout the area. In 2016, answering a craigslist ad, he found Contingency. Over the next 7 years Contingency became one of the top bands in the area, making 2 appearances at Rockfest and 3 at Northwoods Rock Rally as well as many festivals. In November 2022 Jody entered what would be a three year side project called Lil Muddy playing original blues based music and covers resulting in a highly praised album in 2024. Jody left Lil Muddy in September 2025. At the end of 2023 Contingency decided to call it quits. Before Contingency even played their last gig the next band was already in the works. Kanebrake was formed with Jody and Frank from Contingency joining forces with Larry and Dave from another top band in the area, 2nd X-IT. Jim Herrick was brought in on bass in the first year of Kanebrake to finish the current Kanebrake lineup. Since than Kanebrake has quickly built the reputation of being one of the top bands in the area with appearances at both Northwoods Rock Rally and Monster Hall music fest and 2026 is looking to be an even bigger year for Kanebrake. Kanebrake is a band you need to see live to appreciate the energy created by the decades of musicianship on stage.
